The Food Safety Course Level 1 - previously known as WSQ Follow Food and
Beverage Safety and Hygiene Policies and Procedures or WSQ Basic Food Hygiene
Course, 1-day Basic Food and hygiene certification (BFHC) course, available in both English and Chinese, aims to provide learners with the essential knowledge and skill-sets to follow food & beverage safety and hygiene policies and procedures. This food hygiene course is a directly accredited NEA course, which is required if one wishes to qualify as a Food Hygiene Officer (FHO).
Through our experiential classroom training, learners will learn how to:
- Maintain personal hygiene
- Maintain food preparation and service utensils and equipment
- Handle food safely
- Maintain food preparation, service and storage areas
Who should attend?
Food Handlers (i.e. any individual who prepares food and beverage products in NEA-licensed eating establishments).
Personnel primarily involved in the serving of F&B products to customers (e.g. managers, captains, waiters, cashiers, and other service staff).

Mode of Assessment:
At the end of the module, before being awarded the
WSQ BFHC certificate, learners are required to complete a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes of summative assessment, comprising a written assessment, role plays and oral questioning.
Depending on the speed each learner takes to complete the assessment, the assessment will end later than the stipulated time.
Qualification
Upon successful completion of course and assessment, learners will be awarded a Statement of Attainment (SOA) issued by the SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
Entry Qualification:
Learners are expected to demonstrate competency at Level 4 (i.e. lower secondary) for Employability Skills WSQ Work Place Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN). To find out more about WPLN credentials, click here
